Red Bull BWA celebrates 10 years in style Posted on July 27th

No, I am not the unofficial PR machine for Red Bull! They just happen to sponsor a whole bunch of the most exciting and interesting events going around at the moment. One of which took place over the last couple of days, The Red Bull Big Wave Africa 2008, off the coast of Cape Town, South Africa.

Dungeons saw the arrival of a whole bunch of the best in big wave surfers, along with clean 15-20 foot sets to help celebrate 10 years of BWA. The final saw RSA surfer Grant “Twiggy” Baker take top honours with the rest of the pack lined up as follows - Carlos Burle (BRZ) second, Greg Long (USA) third, James Taylor (RSA) fourth, Anthony Tashnick (USA) fifth and Mark Healy (HI) in sixth.

Baker dominated the 30 min final and humble as ever put his win down to luck with the winning waves coming his way.

Several riders were injured throughout the event, most notably - Jason Ribbink (concussion), Mike Schlebach (dislocated shoulder), and Charles Reitz (broken ribs). Check out the photos and footage and you will see why these guys are no doubt happy to walk away from any wipeout at Dungeons alive!

Go to the event site here to check out more photos and videos of the event.
